Know Where You’re Headed

What does a successful day look like for you? What do you need to accomplish in order to feel like you’re moving forward? If you don’t have a specific, measurable goal in mind, how will you know when you get there?

Ask Yourself This Question:

Gary Keller, Author of The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results recommends regularly asking yourself this question: “What’s the ONE thing I can do, that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”

Answering this should make your priorities crystal clear. Are you doing things that don’t need to be done? Are there tasks you’re spending your time on that could be eliminated, automated, or delegated? Instead of focusing on all the things that need to be done, this question will force you to focus on the one thing that will make all the difference.

Do The Important Stuff First

Once you’ve figured out what your ONE thing is, do that first. Before you get distracted, exhausted or overbooked, do the one that one thing that once it’s done, will make everything else easier or unnecessary. This might mean ignoring your email inbox until you’ve made a plan for your day. It could look like taking the time to hire and train a part time virtual assistant to manage “easy” tasks, so that you’ll ultimately free up your time for more productive work. Whatever it looks like, make sure you’re giving your best focus, energy and willpower to the most important things on your plate.

Doing this one thing really will make all the difference.
